Hello, my name is Scott Perry. I’m running for a seat on the Leelanau County Commission this November. Thanks for tuning in to learn a little about me. I was born at Munson Hospital and have been a lifelong Northern Michigan resident. After High School, I went to Michigan State University to study Economics. In the face of the financial crisis, I started a wedding DJ company and carved out a career in my beautiful hometown.

15 years growing with the Leelanau wedding industry has taught me what it takes to excel in a tourist driven, entirely seasonal environment. My favorite aspects of DJing are constructing core memories for families, and making new friends every weekend. A tenet of my business is the world’s most astonishing renewable resource, love. In addition to the luxury of meeting my customers on the best days of their lives, my job also affords me a unique schedule to accommodate the demands of a county commissioner. Working within the means of a budget and preparing for a rainy day are skills that translate to the county commission, immediately.

As a younger resident, I would aim to guide policy with a long term outlook. My neighbors have asked me to run, and I would be honored to promote comprehensive recycling programs, encourage Leelanau County to have a voice on the BATA board, and tweak the budget to cultivate a more resilient police force.

My 98-year-old grandfather concludes every blessing with the sentiment “may we be ever mindful of the needs of others.” I understand this to mean our community is stronger when we raise up those around us. Early Childhood Development programs, such as the program up for renewal on the August 5th vote, are instrumental in maintaining the prosperity enjoyed by our neighbors.

Thank you,
Scott
